IMPACT FACTS

- Reform of National Technical Education System (RETEP)

Nationwide network in Angola of 98 Public Technical High Schools, offering an advanced curriculum attuned to real-world demands.

Till 2016, RETEP has instructed more than 8.000 School Teachers; 54 school Directors (till 2015) and 98 public school directors (2016) has been instructed also.

More than 440.000 school manuals of 99 subjects distributed to schools.

More than 2.000 Training Manuals produced from 50 original matrix created for Training Programs.

Around 972 classrooms and 227 laboratories equipped.

Around 102 professional training courses in 18 training areas are provided.

More than 14.000 graduated students (total number of graduates per year 20.000) found internships and job opportunities through the job counseling units of the program (per year).

Number of students which benefited directly and indirectly of all training, logistic and didactic activities (in 2016): 135.278 (77.823 masculine and 57.455 feminine).

40 workshops (800 participants) and 10 conferences and encounters (850 participants),

40 study visits abroad (800 participants), 5 National Educa fairs (4.000 visitors) and 10 promotional events (2.000 visitors) organized for the program beneficiaries and public in general.


- Local Centers of Entrepreneurship and Employment Services (CLESE)

New concept of entrepreneurship training and capacity building in the country, enhancing a new entrepreneurial, market-driven culture for small and medium business development

  • 10 CLESE - entrepreneurship and employment centers open all over the country, with entrepreneurship training, job recruitment and business incubator services 
  • 232 entrepreneurship courses conducted
  • 9858 participants (mainly young university graduates, seeking to open their first business) provided with professional training, commercial skills and the tools required to turn their ideas into thriving commercial ventures
  • Training also provided to entrepreneurs who already had their business and wanted to improved their knowledge and business practices
  • 3801 graduates
  • 410 new businesses created by graduates – average 40 per province
  • 91% entrepreneurs and trainees satisfied with what they learned at CLESE
  • 78% of entrepreneurs referring to have increased profits after they attended entrepreneurship training at CLESE; 90.5% referring improved access to markets
  • 160 partnerships established with private companies for candidates recruitment; +65 links and collaborations with teaching and research institutions and business associations 
  • 805 community events, with 67,685 participants’ attendance


- Integrative Youth Villages

Integrated 3 year multi-disciplinary education for youth at risk, including specialized vocational studies in agriculture and livestock, electricity, carpentry, locksmith, secretariat and other professional areas, helping them acquire life skills and play a positive role in the community.

  • 2 boarding schools built and equipped with accommodation facilities, classrooms, workshops, laboratories, libraries, medical clinics, agriculture fields, sports and recreational facilities. Two more under construction 
  • Educational, vocational, social and psychological support to interns, involving 43 trained local staff 
  • Social inclusion of interns promoted as the Youth Villages work simultaneously as boarding, regular and professional schools (serving also the neighbor communities) 
  • 110 intern students enrolled in 2017, among 437 regular school students, 248 of which also attended professional training 
  • 2018 students enrolled since 2010 - 95% graduated
  • 100 students placed in professional internships 
  • Intern graduates who finish school and can no longer stay in Cabiri Village, can go to a temporary house until they find a job
  • Interns' families encouraged to follow the school performance of their relative students and receive them home on holidays, despite the family / social problems
  • Behaviour issues, like indiscipline, violence and drug addiction, that are serious among the interns in the first months in the Villages, decrease over time. Senior students eventually educate the new ones and alumni stay connected to the Villages through emotional bonds with colleagues and teachers


- Lossambo Schools 

Pilot project in Angola that provides complete education service, from nursery to secondary school, for all the children and teenagers in the centrality of Lossambo (Province of Huambo) and surrounding villages.

  • 2 nurseries + kindergartens (for children 0-6 years old): 28 rooms
  • 1 kindergarten (for children 3-6 years old): 6 rooms
  • 1 primary school: 24 classrooms
  • 1 high school – 12 classrooms
  • 1 secondary school: 12 classrooms
  • Teaching capacity for 4580 students of all levels – 3626 enrolled so far
  • The vacancies in Lossambo schools not filled by the centrality residents allow children from neighbour villages to come study there, which promotes social inclusion and interaction
  • Teaching and administration staff of 380 people locally trained
  • IT equipment in all school units
  • Support facilities, namely kitchens and laundries, in the kindergartens
  • All 6 facilities fully accessible for people with disabilities: smooth (no steps) entries into buildings, toilets for the disabled, and first floor access to all rooms and wide corridors
  • Staff and students generally pleased and proud with new structures and equipment
  • The new school equipment and facilities involved some "training" and awareness actions, to teach children how to use the school equipment without damaging it


- Government Capacity Building

Focus Education’s Government Professional Training Programs teach civil servants modern, cost-effective methodologies that lead to increased work-flow and better resource management.

Graduates leverage newly acquired skills to benefit those they serve

Strategic Seminars for Scholl Directions and Top Thematic Seminars for Ministries National Directors. 1.100 participants.

  • Ministry of Agriculture:

Special training for research stations network full staff

Continuous training courses for senior specialists of Angola’s Agriculture Ministry.

Seminar: Strategic Management and Administration in Times of Crisis

Focus’ main outcomes in different projects are related to:
