Agricultiva: applying knowledge to fight desertification
Agricultiva’s main issue is to prevent the advance of desert sands over a town of 54.000 inhabitants in Namibe Province.
Thank to activities such as: planting of a 30,000 tamarix treeswindbreak, along a built drip irrigation channel around the town of Tombwa and capacity building amongst the Forestry Development Institute staff.
Agricultiva is managing to contain and minimize the damage caused by the advance of desert sands over houses, buildings and properties, public spaces and infrastructures at risk, including the main access road to the town.
Some concrete results with this project are the fact that the town properties, businesses and infrastructures are saved from the advance of the desert and climate aggression effects.
